Fair queen reflects on year of royalty | Farm Home Garden

For the past year, I have been serving as your fair queen and I have loved every second of it.

I relished in the lights of the midway, eating fair favorites such as monkey bread, snow cones and delicious deep-fried Oreos.

I visited other fairs, like Centre County Grange Fair and American Legion County Fair. I met girls from every fair in the state, and made lifelong friendships that I will forever cherish. Most importantly, I represented our bigger and better Huntingdon County Fair with pride at the Pennsylvania State Association of County Fairs Convention.

This year, our fair was to join in on the statewide theme of “Making Memories, One Fair at a Time.” When writing my state convention speech, I was inspired by a past quote from our previous and beloved fair board president, the late Jim Davis. He once said, “We’ve learned that fun moments at the Huntingdon County Fair make spectacular memories.” Mr. Davis couldn’t have been any more right.

In the past 365 days, I’ve made more than enough memories to remember and think back on. I saw so many smiling faces when I handed children their grand champion banner, I sang and danced along to the music fluttering from the talent show, and I even led chants and songs at Dairy Fun Night after of course, doing the Macarena.

This past year has been a dream, that’s for sure. I am so thankful for the people who have helped me along the way and the people that made me feel welcomed and like part of their family. I wish I had the time, and the space, to thank everyone who left an impact on myself and my reign. However, to my family, thank you for always pushing me to be the best version of myself I could be.

My last wish as fair queen is to have you all think of happy memories from past fairs, and submit them to The Daily News. Let’s remember the festivities, the music, the food and the fun. Yes, we may have lost our 2020 Huntingdon County Fair, but now, we have the ability to make the 2021 fair one of the biggest, and one of the best.

Your 2019-2020 Huntingdon County Fair Queen, Emma Watkins
