Why select just one accent colour when you create a cheerful and uplifting look with a celebration of colour? This modern home design uses a blend of bright and muted colour tones to fashion a fresh interior that’s full of playful personality–without causing a migraine. Designed by Anastasia Zarkua, this inviting home design features a compact living room that’s splashed with artistic elements and colourful pizazz, a botanical home workspace, and a custom hallway storage solution that takes care of just about every need. The master bedroom is accented with an eye-catching blue wallcovering, whilst the kitchen comes alive with green cabinetry and a sweet, sunny dining area.
Starting in the green living room, this cheerfully colourful home design employs a muted shade for the backdrop, whilst furniture sings out in bolder hues. A subtle area rug design holds all of the pieces together with a light meld of tones that doesn’t compete for attention.
Handwoven wall decor and a decorative vase on the coffee table add artistic touches to the room, whilst a hanging plant introduces a botanical element. A small sofa stands out with azure blue upholstery.
A small decorative bowl places a pop of red against the blue coffee table design. A colourful assortment of red, green, and white throw pillows make playful contrast with the blue modern sofa.
The black and white ceramic vase ties in with the monochrome counterparts that are displayed inside a glass-fronted wooden bookcase, whilst its botanical contents complement a yellow accent chair. See more ideas for decorative vases.
The small living space opens up to the hallway of the home, where a bank of crisp white storage units provides a clean contrast to the more colourful living room decor treatment.
The hallway’s custom storage solution doubles as storage for the living room too, and makes space for just about everything else in the home. There is even a special compartment for tucking away bicycles.
A wicker pendant makes a natural accompaniment for the timber elements in the living room and styles a gentle boho vibe. Large windows and french doors bring an influx of sunlight into the living room, highlighting the vibrancy of colour.
A white office chair is teamed with a small white and wooden desk design in the corner of the living room. A black desk lamp places a darkly contrasting element on top.
Indoor plants are gathered around the home workspace to fashion a botanical look that helps the homeowner to feel connected with the outdoors even when stuck inside.
A coral feature wall backs the home workspace in the living room, which beautifully contradicts the paler green elements of the scheme. In the home entryway, a small bench echoes the coral accent, and a geometric floor tiles break into the wood laminate floor treatment to create a dynamic effect.
The primary green colour thread continues inside the kitchen, where bold green kitchen cabinets dominate the compact room. Small riots of additional colour explode from a pair of open kitchen shelving units, a brightly patterned window blind, and a small but effective piece of cheerful wall art by the dining table.
A bank of natural wood upper cabinets adds an earthy element to the predominantly green kitchen design. Indoor plants add texture and natural beauty.
Black appliances contrast with the green kitchen cabinets. Black wall sconces extend over the kitchen shelving units to spill practical task lighting onto the prep area.
A small dining table and rattan chairs fill the remainder of the compact kitchen. The cute dining set can be glimpsed through a glass kitchen door from the hallway.
A pink vase filled with flowers makes a pretty dining table centrepiece.
Sunny yellow teacups perch on fashionable terrazzo coasters.
Geometric wall tiles make up a striking backsplash around the kitchen. A black kitchen sink and a matching black faucet drop dark anchors into the grey kitchen worktop.
The black, white, and grey backsplash tiles are complemented by a grey glass dining room pendant light, which attractively reflects natural light from the kitchen window during the day.
At the end of the short hallway, an attractive parquet wall provides a focal point. The wooden wall feature makes a fitting backdrop for an array of indoor plants, which are raised on a modern plant stand for display.
Back in the entryway, a tall shoe storage unit keeps daily footwear in check.
A decorative tray supplies a landing spot for keys, phones, and sunglasses. Wall art drops a coral hue against the pale green wall paint.
In the bedroom, a blue colour theme takes over.
A blue wallcovering makes a big statement behind the headboard and a graduated blue rug colours the floor. A blue comforter accessorises the platform bed to match, whilst modern wall sconces contrast in black and gold.
The tiny WC makes a big statement with a burst of botanical wallpaper around the upper half of the room. Durable umber glazed wall tiles clad the lower section.
In the separate bathroom, a small wooden vanity unit is wall mounted to maintain open floor space. Green subway tiles smoothly clad the vanity backsplash, the side of the tub, and all around the wet zone of the over-bath shower. A black-framed racetrack-shaped vanity mirror is flanked by chic modern bathroom pendant lights in a matching black finish.
