A struggle on my favorite rooftop in Jerusalem | Sarah Tuttle-Singer

There was a wrestle on one of my favourite roofs in Jerusalem – the roof exactly where the four quarters of the outdated metropolis are pieced alongside one another.

A Palestinian person explained one particular point.
An Israeli dude explained another.

They shouted. They clenched their fists. They shouted some extra.

The law enforcement arrived and walked again and forth amongst the two shouting from the rooftops and into the wind.

Who was telling the truth, who was lying?

Turns out neither.

I experienced found what experienced happen – and additional importantly, I experienced FILMED what experienced transpired – so I went in excess of to the police and reported “this is what took place.”

They saw it and saw too that the reality was all a make any difference of standpoint.

The Palestinian guy saw just one issue.
The Israeli gentleman noticed an additional.

They each have been mistaken – which meant they both equally could be proper.

All people went their independent approaches – the Israeli headed south toward the Kotel, the Palestinian headed north towards Damascus Gate, and I went down the rickety techniques, back again to the Shuk.

“I saw what you did,” a shopkeeper advised me. “Sometimes individuals get so offended. It is very good they could see what truly occurred.”

“The law enforcement you indicate?”

“No. The adult males who have been battling. They necessary to see.”

He invited me to tea and we drank.

Later on he confirmed me the jewelry he will make – Roman glass pieces fashioned into earrings and necklaces — leftovers from an historical and mighty civilization worn away, now worn versus dwelling pores and skin.

I had to have a single.

So I picked this basic necklace — edged in silver, mermaid blue, and I have worn it considering that.

For clarity.

And I ponder:

The place did this piece come from? Perhaps a cup or a vase? Perhaps a vial of perfume?

Whose hands held it and who gazed via it?

And:

What will be left of us  in 2000 several years?

What leavings of ours will a female in 2000 several years dress in chained all around her neck?

How will we be remembered? Our small life, the tales we explain to, the struggles we endure and the so also, the instances we celebrate… We leave footprints in the sand that blow away, but our electronic footprint will remain even just after chrome has melted and glass has turned to dust.

Perhaps that’s why we generate and choose photographs and video clips and share stories – our variations of the truth preserved eternally for others to see how erroneous we are.

And nonetheless how appropriate.

And I’ll explain to you the truth: I envy the archaeologists who cull as a result of all our leavings, through the dross and the jewels — simply because I would genuinely appreciate to know what they make your mind up this all signifies anyway.
