A star fashion stylist in NYC for approximately 30 yrs, Scott Newkirk has also been a single to view in the planet of interiors, many thanks to his simply stylish quarters. In Brooklyn, he retained property in a former fire station with burlap curtains and art shown each and every which way (including with masking tape as instantaneous wall frames)—as showcased in our to start with reserve, Remodelista: A Sourcebook for the Trendy Property. In upstate NY, he constructed his very own off-the-grid, two-story desire cabin from salvaged materials—see Steal This Appear. Pics of the latter and of Scott bathing in a brook continue on to make the on-line rounds even while Scott himself moved on a decade back.
We’re pleased to report that our good friend recently resurfaced with his beloved dog, Scratch, and an expanded repertoire. Soon after placing most of his belongings in storage and heading household to Mississippi to help his ailing father, Scott tells us, he received a work give that brought him to Charlotte, North Carolina. For the last few a long time, he’s been past hectic as the visual director at Tabor and Capitol, companion mens’ and womenswear boutiques (at Tabor, Scott was also enlisted to design and style the retail store and is one of its two prospective buyers). And for the very last calendar year, he and Scratch have been getting settled in an condominium in a 1929 five-tale brick composition in Charlotte’s Fourth Ward, a walkable space of Victorian properties and pocket-sized park that he describes as “the most urban neighborhood I could obtain.” Each individual item Scott lives with has a tale, and he welcomed us in for a guided tour.

“The living home is very smaller so I wanted a sofa no far more than five-toes extensive,” Scott carries on.”I arrived throughout this one particular on 1st Dibs. It was a unhappy small no-name Italian piece from the late fifties in an aged crimson striped velvet with springs bursting from the seat, but it had wonderful traces and I cherished the small brass legs. (I like to consider it lived in Venice at a single stage.) I found the gorgeous eco-friendly mohair at a community fabric retail store that sells leftovers from interior designers and it gave the couch a new lifestyle.”
Other than the couch and the Grasshopper Floor Lamp, shown below, just about everything arrived from Scott’s New York loft: “All of the household furniture was acquired in the early- to mid-1990s from tiny home furniture galleries in Soho and the beloved 26th Street Flea Market place.”
The table tale: “I bought it 30 years ago from a young person who had just inherited two warehouses of Scandinavian furnishings from his Father and was seeking to sort it all out. That working day was a rating.” Scott paired the 1960s bronze lamp with a string shade he extended ago located in a Chelsea thrift retail outlet. The lengthy-armed mild is in the design of Prouvé.
