Oak Lawn, Illinois home invasion leaves neighbors shaken as suspects pretending to sell candy rob elderly woman

OAK Garden, Unwell. (WLS) — An aged Oak Garden lady opened her front doorway to a lady professing to be promoting candy when a group of burglars then knocked her down and ransacked her house, police reported.

“It’s slowly and gradually sinking in, and I think the shock is variety of putting on off, so the fear is what is changing the shock,” claimed Voytek Sak, victim’s son.

Village officers mentioned shortly immediately after 6 p.m. Tuesday the target answered a ring at her doorway at her residence in the 4600-block of West 105th Spot. She was met with a Black female, described as remaining in her late teenagers, sporting an orange or red coat who told her she was advertising candy. Doorbell camera video from a nearby dwelling demonstrates her with a box in her arms and what seems to be to be a backpack.

“This is the first time in my occupation in which I have essentially witnessed them applying the candy as the ruse to commit a residence invasion,” claimed Oak Garden Law enforcement Division Chief Gerald Vetter.

“They’re working with that innocence that folks may see in anyone young,” Sak reported.
The 70-12 months-old lady declined, but the lady returned. Sak stated his other felt guilty following declining to invest in sweet previously, so she all over again opened the door. This time the gentleman, sporting what appeared to be a white T-shirt about a blue hoodie, pulled out a gun and compelled his way into the household, officers claimed.

“A shorter time afterwards the female came back again and this time she’s with a male matter who’s armed with a handgun, who compelled his way into her household,” Vetter claimed.

The sufferer was held at gunpoint although a third male, also described as a Black male but with out a clothing description, also came in and then the 3 ransacked the residence. At a single point, Sak reported his mother tried using to escape.

“They ran right after her, pulled her back again violently, slamming her to the ground and then dragging her into the kitchen, and then kicking her,” he claimed.

Minutes afterwards the trio fled to a white Kia Optima driven by a fourth man or woman. The Kia fled west on 105th Put towards Cicero Avenue, officials mentioned.

“They are the sweetest people,” neighbor MaryAnn Miller stated.

Miller lives ideal across the street from the victims and her surveillance cameras caught the suspects in the act.

“It is spooky, but they gotta be insane. Policeman there, policeman there, policeman all around the corner this neighborhood, I have absolutely nothing but police all about me,” Miller mentioned.
